"I love Secrets to Dog Training. I rescued two German Shepherds and I did not know anything about dog obedience. One of my dogs was quite aggressive with other dogs, and crazy about chasing cats and squirrels. What I like about your book is that you give insights into what the dog is thinking, why they behave the way they do, and tips on what to do to correct the problem. I have learned so much from your instructions, and my dogs are now following my commands and I am able to control them. Thanks for the great book."

Dear Sir
I have 2 Golden Retrievers in the house and garden as well as a reasonable size enclosed area the dogs are quite obedient they will sit and come on command.
However as a general rule when I let them off of the lead in the fields or forest they disappear and the boy will go missing for about 5/10 minutes he will then come back to the spot that he left me. The girl will chase after him and keep coming back and then go looking for him again.
Bob is 5yrs old and Becky is 4 and a half.
When they return they are never scolded and if it is a reasonable length of time they will be rewarded.
Many thanks for you help.
George Smith
Hi George,
Thanks for your email. This is quite a common issue faced by dog owners. There are a number of things that I can suggest to help you in this situation.
1. Please ensure that you are using the Alpha techniques as set out in the bonus book to teach your dogs that you are in charge - the Top Dog! This will help with their obedience, because they will know that you are the boss, and therefore your commands should be obeyed!
2. There are a number of Come Command Rules that I recommend people use:
a. Never call your dog to you for a reprimand
b. Always call your dog in a happy voice, and get down onto one knee to appear less threatening to your dog
c. Always praise your dog for coming to you, even if they have taken their time
d. Praise your dog for coming to you without having been called
e. Never call your dog to you for something you know they don't like e.g. baths or visits to the vet.
3. Use a squeaky toy and/or treats to make yourself more interesting than whatever else has caught their attention.
4. Have daily obedience lessons with your dogs. Spend at least 10 minutes of one-on-one training time with each dog, going through the various commands.
5. Make sure that your dog's get lots of exercise other than their off-leash run. Brisk walks and games of fetch are great! Obedience lessons will also help exercise their minds, as will dog puzzles/games. A dog whose body and mind has been exercised needs more rest than a dog who is only physically stimulated.
6. Perhaps you could use a retractable leash on your male dog so that can still run around, but cannot disappear like he has been doing. I hope this helps George.
Good luck, and please let me know how you progress.
Kind regards,

"Secrets to Dog Training - STOP Dog Behavior Problems!"
I've been a professional dog trainer for well over 20 years, and in that time I've helped thousands of dog owners just like you to get the friendly, well behaved, slipper fetching, best pal they always wanted.
But it didn't start out that way. I've always loved dogs, some things never change. But when I first started my professional dog training career I relied on the so-called 'best practices' when it came to dog behavior training. It was only when I heard people tell me over and over again that they just weren't seeing results that I started to question the old accepted wisdom. So I started a journey, a quest to search out the best, most effective, techniques, tips, and tricks that really work.
And that's how I came up with Secrets to Dog Training. Year after year I found new techniques that achieved the results I wanted. Eventually I had a whole book worth of great resources: Secrets to Dog training...
So, if you want to:
Then Secrets to Dog Training is just what you've been looking for!
