My dogs are in a kennel for the majority of the day. In the morning, I feed them in the kennel then take them out to do their thing. If I leave them when they have done this without burying it, i come back to find them chewing away at their excrement. I also suspect that they chew on any poop they put in the kennel as sometimes the kennel is clean in the morning. I like the tidy up but is that healty for them??
New to this but I have read that the dogs are bored and playing or they may be tidying up the potty spot. This was starting to happen to myself. I just started picking it up to eliminate the problem. hope this helps.
The first thing to try when you have a dog that eats poop is to change its diet. For many dogs, they just aren't getting the minerals they need from their food and they think that eating poop will help. I have had several friends who have followed this advice and it has worked with their dogs.
Be sure you are feeding a food that has a real meat (something you would eat) as the first ingredient. Avoid foods that start off the ingredient list with meat by products, chicken by products, corn, or rice. Always buy the best food you can afford and it will save you money in the long run with reduced vet bills later in life.
