Hello, I have 2 Maltese Shihtzhus, a male 5 years old and a female, 2.5 years old. The female has a habit of "digging" in the water bowls until they're empty, I've tried everything but she keeps doing it....if it's a cold day, she won't do it but as soon as it's a sunny day, I come home from work & all the bowls are empty..she even does this at times when I'm home..has anyone experienced this and what do you suggest? I don't want them becoming dehydrated with summer on it's way here in Australia......thanks to anyone who replies
Hi there, welcome to the forum.Have you tried getting bowls that are raised/come with a stand to keep them up off the floor/ground? These can help with mess creating animals sometimes.
If that doesnt work, some pet stores sell bowls with a donut shaped piece of plastic on the top that prevents paws from getting in but still allows the dog to drink. You might look around to find one, or try ordering one online.
If your dog is outside, try providing a kiddy pool to keep her occupied with that water instead of her bowl. It may help, and if not, at least its a bigger source of water to help her drink.
Thank you for your reply, I have tried the donut shaped one and the heightened ones, but she just knocks them over LOL I have thought about the kiddie pool, and will have to try that now
