I have a young male doberman who is fairly large. He has a habit of jumping on my back French doors when he wants in or is hungry or wants attention. I've tried most things I can think of to get him to stop. Any ideas?

Have you ever tried sneaking up on your dog and reprimanding him when he is jumping on your French doors? You could hide round a corner, wait until you see him jump up and then jump out and squirt him with a hose or make a loud noise to startle him. You would probably have to do this a number of times before the message got through.

You could also try totally ignoring him when he jumps? This would probably be a little annoying, but it would hopefully teach your dog that his jumping does NOT get your attention. You would have to make sure that you only let him inside when he was calm or sitting down.

Good luck

My Sheltie Pup jumps on my back door too. I will try the sneaking from behind trick to see if it works thanks very much.

I have an Aussie who jumped on my screen door (necessitating a replacement!) What finally worked was standing inside the door with the juiciest treat I could find and commanding "sit!" This took repeated tries but eventually she learned that she had to sit before I would open the door and then she had to come in and sit before she got the treat. Only problem now is that when she gets her treat, she breaks the sit and gets overly excited. However, we have saved the new screen door. She's only five months, so I have high hopes, as she's doing most everything else very well.
