Female dog annoying to male dog

Hi everyone, I have a 1 year old female Maltese Shitzhu called Tara & a 4 year old male Maltese Shitzhu called Titch. I got my male when he was a pup & then when he was approx 3 I got the girl as a pup. In the first week Titch was not very welcoming of Tara but then he turned around & they are great mates most of the time....however Tara is often chasing him around trying to bite his neck, tail, bum, whatever she can get her mouth on to & it sometimes escalates into Titch telling her off by growling (which is good as she needs to learn when to stop) but most of the time he will jump up to a higher vantage point to get away from her......5 minutes later they could be lying next to each other on their blankets outside.....so I guess my question is-should I be worried about this annoying behaviour of Tara's or should I just let them be as most of the time they are fine, they share their food as well & also lick each others faces.....their fighting has never gone onto anything that has caused either of them any injury but I'm just worried that my male Titch is seeming rather annoyed & is then left with no option but to sit on top of his kennel after Tara has chased him nipping at his legs, tail etc....Titch is a very placid & happy dog....Tara has endless energy & is still a very playful puppy.....any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hey there,

I'd say most likely this behaviour is normal puppy stuff. While Titch might have been calm at 1 year of age, every dog is different and more often than not, young dogs have endless energy. If Titch tells Tara off when he's had enough of her play, and has a way to get out of it, then I'd say the situation is fine. Its much like young kids playing together, one finally gets sick of it and exits. I'd bet Tara grows out of it and gets over the chasing. Unless they start escalating into full blown aggression, I wouldnt be too worried
