HI All
I have a springer X cocker spaniel male aged 3. He has reciently started pinching objects and growls when I try to take it away.2 weeks ago he attacked me when i touched his paw, I put it down to I must have somehow hurt him.but today when he had pinched something I shouted at him to drop it, after a few attempts to get him to drop it he attacked me biting my foot and leg. It was a very aggresive attack but I didn't let him see I was frightened. He then proceeded to urinate on the carpet which he has never done.
I hope someone can help me I am desperate

Hi Linda,

It must be a shocking experience to see your own dog bite you.

I don't know how long you have had him and what kind of relationship you have established with him but I strongly recommand to start obedience training all over again

If you think you and him have had a good relationship and this aggression started just recently, you might want to take him to the vet and have him checked out. There might be some medical problem hiding behind his misbehavior.

The last thing you want to happen is that your dog learns to get his way by growling and attacking so you should start reprimanding him as soon as possible.

Meal time might be the best start. Don't just feed him but make sure he has to obey you in order to win his meal.

Also, interact with him a lot by playing with toys, walking him a number of times a day. Start train him "Drop it" and "Leave it" commands using something that he doesn't see much value. Then, move on to something that is more valuable to him.

I would recommend that you take your dog to the vet and get him checked out for any physical reason that he could have to start acting out. Its so hard to tell sometimes when there's something slight going on medically that can make a difference.

Thanks for replies, Cisco has been to the vet and no medical problems were detected.
We have always had a great relationship, he is probably to attached to me though he follows me everywhere and if possible will sit on my lap. I know he is to spoilt.
Cisco had a effisode of the same aggression when he was 1 year old, we then had a friend who took him out for 2 hour walks twice a day, we moved home in August and no longer live near enough for friend to take him out. I do take him for walks but not as lond.
Do you think this could have anything to do with my problem.

Walking a dog does a lot for them...first it burns extra energy, second it gives them an opportunity to "smell" the world and makes them very happy, and third it helps you to bond with your dog while you are walking and giving commands. It also helps with social skills as you meet other dogs and people along your way. I think its important to walk a dog a minimum of 20 minutes every day! Perhaps this is all he needs to get him out of his current state of mind. Try it...its cheap "therapy". :cool:
