Nibbling, not exactly chewing, problem

I have a dog (Pit/Lab mix) that is about 1-1/2. When it's time for bed she lies down and basically nibbles with her front teeth on the sheets, the comforter, her bedding, the pillows - whatever. I got a flat toy, with no stuffing, that is soft, specifically for this 'habit' and anytime she starts nibbling on forbidden stuff I tell her "no chew" and give her the toy. She will nibble that for a bit and then go back to my stuff. It seems to be mellowing out a bit but I have to constantly watch her - is this just a phase? It's almost like its something soothing for her and it helps her to sleep. Any help is appreciated!

I've never seen this but it sounds like you are right, it is a soothing thing for your dog. You sound like you are doing everything right. The toy was a great idea and telling the dog "no chewing" is excellent. I think it may be a phase as your dog is still very young, however, if it REALLY bugs you a lot or if your bed is being ruined, there's always the option of setting up a doggie bed on the floor next to your bed with things the dog can nibble on safely.
