I have been having problems with my new puppy. He is a 3 month old Blue Heeler and I was told that I am his 4th owner. He has started to "Hump" me and I think it is domanance "humping". I have been working on his training and he is a very smart and quick learner. He has sit and stay pritty down pact and we are working on come. I am working on him waiting for me and my family to go out the door before he does and hes doing really good on that. He has a problem on jumping up on people and he pees when someone new comes in the house. I walk him twice a day and I pratcice the correct way to walk him but he dosent seem to want to follow and pulls/chews on his leash. He lays at my feet and follows me everywhere in the house. He even wines when I go to the restroom or somewhere where he cant see or follow me. If anyone has any information then it would be really helpful. I dont know if im doing things wrong or if im giving off the wrong vibes or if Im even pushing for to much from him. Thank you. nikki
Given that your pup is still only very young I'd say that you're on the right track, puppies have behavioural problems sometimes, especially if they've had an unstable start to life. All you can do is what you are doing and enforce strict training schedules into their lives - but don't forget to have a lot of fun and play lots as well, remember that he is only young. The best thing you can do for him at this age is teach him the command "NO" and then be consistent with teaching him what is right and wrong. Praise him and play with him for doing good things and use the word "NO" when he is doing something you don't like. The most important thing with the word "NO" is that if he stops doing what was naughty then you should praise him. This helps him figure out what it was he was doing wrong.
Enjoy your puppy - you'll miss the puppy stage when he grows up!! Good work on the training as well, you sound like you've got everything under control.
Hey all just wanted to update everyone on how everything is going with my puppy. I realized that I was over welmed and needed a day to reprioritize everything. I want everyone to know that Max (my puppy) is doing great and everything is settleing down. I think he has realized that this will be his forever home lol. He does great on his walks except when we get close to home cuz he gets really excited. He listens really well and even does what my 3 year old daughter tells him to lol. He is a great dog and I am so happy that everything is working out now.
