We have a 9 month old rescue puppy that we've had since about 6 weeks old. We have learned he is a mix of German Shepherd, Shar Pei and Labrador. He is smart, very high-energy but also very demanding and very stubborn. Puppy lessons and private training haven't helped us instill any obedience beyond "sit." And now he is showing aggression to neighbors and visitors and occasionally growls at my husband if he gets to close to the dog's bone. We honestly feel like he's out of control and are hoping the books help - but would appreciate any and all feedback. We look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
Thanks for writing in! We are sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your dog.
Stubborn puppies are certainly a huge challenge and I think a good place to start is alpha training. Have you had a read through our bonus book that is dedicated to this training method? If you haven't already done so, begin implementing some of those strategies.
Food aggression is certainly a dangerous behaviour and I suggest that until you have more control over your pet, use 'avoidance' to manage this issue. Feed him in a place where he will not feel threatened by anyone, ideally he would be alone in this room while he is being fed. Once he is done eating get him to leave the room so you can safely go inside and pick up his bowl or leftovers.
If you have any questions after you have read the ebook, please don't hesitate to ask, we are more than happy to help! All the best, I hope the training goes well.
