Taking leash in mouth

I have a 10-week-old puppy who I'd like to start training. But whenever I put the collar and leash on her, she takes the leash in her mouth and starts pulling. I know she's only playing, but I can't get anywhere if I can't get her to stop this behavior. Any suggestions?

Hi there, sorry for the delay in response. This is a common issue with puppies. Its best if, when this happens, you stop, stand still, and say "no" firmly. Try not to tug on it or try to tug it out of her mouth, as she'll see this as you playing back. If you just stand there, hopefully she'll get the idea that putting the lead in her mouth isn't actually fun, because nothing happens. If she doesnt drop it on her own, you can bend down and open her mouth and take it out, again, saying "no" firmly when you do it. But I would say try ignoring the behaviour by not responding physically, and telling her no. Let us know how you get on!
