I have two dogs about a year apart in age and different breeds; one of them is a pitt mix and the other a queensland healer. When we leave them home alone, it is guaranteed that we will come home and the house is an absolute disaster scene! I believe they just get to playing and one thing leads to another. We don't have carpet in the house so the couches are all rearranged, they get ahold of any paperwork that is left on the counters, toilet paper, but they never chew anything up with the exception of paper. No matter how many times I have tried to discipline them by leaving them outside, spanking, or just absolutely ignoring them, it is like I said guaranteed to happen. I have tried to leave them outside when we leave and still they get into anything that they can. I have tried to separate the two of them by leaving one in and one out, but then there is the fact that the one left inside cannot get out to use the restroom, thus leaving a mess for me to clean up regardless. I honestly have no clue as to what needs to be done in order to stop this behavior. Please, any suggestions or help!?
I think at this point it might be best to contain them when you are not in the house - some dogs just always have to tear things up. Crate training or having an outside run to put the dogs in while you are away is an excellent training method to avoid this. It also teaches the dog new commands and provides them a safe place that is their own area.
