We have a 7 month old female german shepherd. She has been to obedience training and socialized, we are continuing with both. She has been very friendly and gentle with all. However just within the last week she has begun to bark aggressively at all people (known and strangers) that enter our yard or home. If ignored she will calm down within a few minutes. But during this time she ignores our commands of "quiet" and "leave it". What are we doing wrong? Will this be something she out grows? How do we correct this?
It is unusual for a dog to change behaviour like that. Can you think of any bad experience that she might have had that could have triggered this? Did anyone scare her?
Please let me know how this condition has progressed- is she better now or worse? I recommend that you keep training her and maybe even consider alpha training her if she has become worse- just to up her sense of security in the pack hierarchy.
is it possible she is having problems seeing? You might want to check her out with your vet. Barking at strangers, I can understand, but when you add the barking at people she knows, that sounds as if she doesn't recognize them.
