We have a 13 month old female Bouvier. She likes to hump us in the evening, mostly. I have tried making her down stay - works sometimes. I also put her in her crate when she does it. She will look at me and it is like she can't help it. What is going on and what can I do? Can you help?!

Keep going with your training, she will soon learn that it is unacceptable behaviour. You're on the right track just be consistent, persistent and patient!!!

Good luck,

Hi there,
humping is a way to show dominance. Especially young dogs like to push the boundaries. Make sure that she knows that you are the pack leader. Never let her eat before you and always make her do something for her food, like sit and wait. Make her sit before you pat her or give her any attention. Have quality time with her, take her for walks, play with her (on your terms) and pat her. Control the access she has to toys. Give her one toy and then take it away from her for a short while, replace it with another toy the next day to keep her interested. She will learn that all the good things happen because you are there and care for her. The more she respects you the more obedient she will be.
When she humps you put her in time out and ignore her completely for a short while. You will need to be very consistent.
Let us know how you get on.
