My adopted dog - part beagle part coonhound the sign said - gets outside without a lead and runs all day chasing squirells. She won't come back till it's dark or dinner time whichever comes first. I have no voice control either in the house or outside the house. She seems easy to train but we consistently let her run the game....or so it seems -in all honesty!!! So I guess the issue is how to train this kind of dog to stay and to come.
Get a leash? That's the best solution for you buddy. Furthermore, work with her on the recall command and establish yourself as an alpha if you want your dog to listen to you.
Start teaching the recall command in a small and a closed area, where there are no distractions. Increase the distraction level. As you see the progress continues to go well, start training it outside on a long leash, so she won't be distracted and start to run away. Make sure to ALWAYS, doesn't matter how much time it took her to respond to the recall command, you praise her with the best thing you have. Always carry some treats with you when you are out for a trip, and from time to time when you see she sniffs or when she doesn't look at you call her enthusiastically and treat her very well. Make sure to practice it on long leash - after she's reliable enough, and then do so when you see a squirrel around, but make sure to reward her more than she would've been rewarded by chasing the squirrel.
