Hi All,

I got an adorable Rott called Max. He's 2 months old now. i trying to teach him some basics and i got some advises from the original breeder to let him play with all people as much as i can. but now he's extremely friendly to the extent that when the door bell rings, he runs to check the person on the door to play with him.
i believe that he can go away with any stranger even.
is this behavior normal at this stage or shall i start doing something else??

Hi there,

Congrats on the new pup! I'd say this is a good behaviour - and is partly just puppy love. Certainly you dont want your dog wandering off with a stranger, but youve only had him a short time, so the more you two spend time together, the more he'll bond to you so that even if he loves other people and dogs, he'll know he belongs with you and won't just run off at parks, etc.

I'd definitely work on training him with recognizing his name when you call him, and the "come" command - these will help!

Your pet has a risk behaviour. Why I say so? because as what you have said, there is a higher percentage that you pet may get by other people. Of course, you must deprive your pet to play and free but you should also put leashes and collars to your pet at a times. That's what I did to my pet, I purchase dog collars and leashes at Dog Collars, Dog Tags, Pet ID Tags, Personalized Pet Collars, NFL Collars & more!. Guard your pet my dear. I am telling you this because this is exactly what happen on my first pet dog. I lost my doggy.

I do agree that identification on your dog is a must - and on this note would recommend microchipping your Max. Its pretty cheap, relatively pain-free for the dog (like getting a big shot), and ultimately invaluable.
