I have a 3 year old female Boxer/Whippet mix and we are having trouble with jealousy. Whever my grandsons come over she becomes pushy for attention and has now started snapping at everyone, including my 3 year old grandson. I know they are warning shots but it scares me to death. Any advise on how to correct this behavior would be most appreciated. Thank you
I'd suggest putting her in time out at soon as she starts pushing at all. This will help her learn that being jealous and pushy = no attention at all. Leave here in time out for about 10 minutes, then let her out again. Just put her right back if she misbehaves again!
Otherwise, try to alternate giving her attention and giving your grandkids attention....play with your grandsons, but take 2 minutes every 15 minutes or so to give your dog a scratch and a bit of praise, hopefully she will feel included then. As your grandsons get older, encourage them to pet her nicely as well.
