Hi;
I`m taking a chance now but maybe I`m lucky and there`s someone with some advise.
This weekend we visited the neighbours and when we returned home an hour later we were greeted by a swollen face 3 month old doberman.We immidiately rushed to the vet and got 2 shots for bee stung.He also gave us some celestimine tablets just for incase we need it in future and aren`t nere a vet.
Now,what I want to know:Is there something I can give her every day (for just incase there`s a lost bee flying around ) that`s not harmful to her in the longrun.It`s a dogs nature to catch/play with flying things.I`m working and don`t have someone to watch her the whole day.I can`t imagine coming home and there`s no Shasa anymore knowing that she suffocated. Many may not agree with me - but between children/grownups (humans) & animals my pets/any other animal come first because the can`t speak for themself and it`s a very few poeple that care for animals.I believe most/many have pets because it`s part of society and not because he/she WANTED it.So I "might" be over reacting sometimes.

Wow, Lizelle,

That must have been scary! I am so glad your dobie survived.

Is there any way you can keep her inside when you are gone? That way, the possibility of her getting stung again is lowered. There are so many other things that could also go wrong when you aren't home. A neighbor returned home to find his GSD puppy had attempted to climb his fency. The collar caught on a post and the dog hanged itself.

And people wonder why I don't let my dog use the dog door when I'm not home!

If you are afraid of her tearing up your home, you can always crate train her.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

But I can`t find it in my heart to lock her up for 9hrs while she could be playing.

Keeping her inside the house is also kind of a problem.In the house I cant trust her and the utility room that I have -have been used by my 3 old dogs (10yrs/13yrs/17+ yrs) as an toilet when they couldn`t keep it in during night.
I think it would confuse her because I`m trying to learn her not to use the room but go outside when she wants to do her things.The odour has gone into the grout between the tiles and you can`t get it out.
I just have to hope for the best.

You are right, Lizelle,

Don't keep her in a room that advertises itself, by smell, as the doggie latrine!

There are other alternatives: a dog walker (someone you trust that could come several times a day and let her out to play for a bit) and doggie day-care (if offered in your area). However, both those can be pretty expensive as long-term solutions.

Another forum member may have some better solutions.

If the only solution you have is to leave her outside I would bee proof the area she's in by removing anything that would attract bees (i.e. flowering plants). You could also try setting up a bee trap on the farthest area from where she usually plays. Here's a link to one site I found:
