I have a beautiful 9 year old Staffie boy called Steel. He is the love of our lives. He has never suffered from flies attacking his ears before and it has only got bad in the last month. It is nearly winter in Sydney Australia, although still quite warm and I thought the flies would be less rather than the mass that have taken up residence on his ear tips of late. His diet hasn't changed, I have washed his bedding and him weekly. I put a tiny bit of a product I got from friend who had same problem but he smells it and rolls in dirt to remove it. Does anyone have a solution to this problem before it drives either Steel or myself insane. Thanks heaps for any input. Have a great weekend fellow "Kingdom of Pets" members.
First off - are there wounds or scratches of some sort on your dogs ears that the flies are attracted to? You might check, just to be sure
Household fixes I've heard of to repel flies include rosemary oil (home made), vasoline/petroleum jelly, and things like store bought mozzie repellant. I can't guarantee they'll work 100%, but I've heard success stories with all of them.
You can always ask your vet for a different product you might be able to try as well.
