My daughter just called me this evening, new symptom, Jake just threw up blood. Told her to call dermatologist, and in the mean time I called regular vet up by me. Regular vet said that ulcers is one of the concerns when on prednisone, he would suggested getting him off of pred and checked for ulcers. Called my daughter and told her to discuss the weaning process when the dermatologist calls her back. All of this is after hours. Poor pup is hurting.
Just spoke with my daughter again this evening. The dermatologist agreed that weaning him off of prednisone was a good idea. His dose has dropped from 80 mgs. per day to 10 mgs. Will keep him at this dose for a week then check in again with vet.
