Walks Like a Trotter Horse

Please do not think me of not playing, working and loving my Ridgeback, Lucy, but since the accident I have noticed everything about her because all of her muscles, tendons and ligaments were torn when she was hit by a truck.

Lucy is slowly recovering although she is still very weak in the hips.

I have noticed that she runs like a trotter horse. 2 rights and 2 lefts. Is this natural to the Ridgeback breed or is this a result of the accident and how she is having to recover.

Hi there,
that doesn't sound natural.
How long ago did she get hit by a truck?
Could it be that she is still in pain and walks like this to reduce the pain?
Did her hips or shoulders get damaged?

I always have newfoundland dogs which is a giant breed. They quite often walk two right and two left. I was told this is because of their giant size and lots of the larger breeds walk this way. Most people dont notice it but because your watching your dog lots, you have noticed. I wouldnt worry but get it checked out to put your mind at rest

I am a canine hydrotherapist, it sounds as though your dog still has weaknesses from the trauma. Don't know if you have tried hydrotherapy before but it works wonders and you'll notice improvements almost straight away. good luck
