I have received advise to give zeolite to our dog as a mineral supplement and detoxicant. Does anyone know about this supplement or can recommend further reading for research? Our dog eats rocks and is also having some blood in the stools. She is being treated at the vets for the possibility of Giardia. She is 6 months old.

Zeolite sounds like a good idea to give as a supplement. If your puppy has diarrhea, an antibiotic called Metronidizole is great. If your vet hasn't tried it, ask about Metronidizole. Also, canned pumpkin can be added to their food to stop diarrhea.

Metronidazole is only good at stopping a very specific type of diarrhoea. If you are wanting to find out the cause of the diarrhoea then take your dog back to the vets and ask for a full diagnostic work-up. This will involve blood tests, and examination of the diarrhoea and also possibly xrays and can be quite costly. Hopefully the vet has reached a diagnosis and is treating your animal accordingly. Be careful with supplements as some of them claim a lot of things that they do not infact do. Go and see your vet for further advice, they have your animals health as their number one priority.
