Measure what works
Tracking
A tracking ID tags each place you share your link, so your ClickBank reports show which email, video or post the sales came from. It takes a few seconds to add, and it shows you where your effort pays.
How tracking works
Your HopLink and tracking ID
Your link is https://hop.clickbank.net/?affiliate=NICKNAME&vendor=sitstay. Add &tid= and an ID of up to 24 letters and numbers to tag where a click came from.
In the older format it goes after a question mark: https://NICKNAME.sitstay.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=ID. The link builder adds it for you either way.
The 60-day cookie
When someone clicks your link, ClickBank sets a cookie that lasts 60 days. If they buy within that time, the sale is yours, and that includes people who join the free 6 Day Course first and buy after one of its emails.
Clicks, sales and commissions show in your ClickBank account, and its reports can split them by tracking ID.
Naming your tracking IDs
Start with the channel, then the topic or angle, then a date or number. Keep to letters and numbers, with no spaces, dashes or underscores, and note each ID in a spreadsheet so you remember what it was.
| Where you use the link | Channel | Topic | Date or number | Tracking ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Email to your list | em | recall | 2611 | emrecall2611 |
| Link in an email’s P.S. | emps | recall | 2611 | empsrecall2611 |
| YouTube video | yt | review | 01 | ytreview01 |
| Short video (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) | sv | leash | 03 | svleash03 |
| Pinterest pin | pin | jumping | 02 | pinjumping02 |
| Facebook page or group post | fb | puppy | 01 | fbpuppy01 |
| Instagram bio link | igbio | none needed | none needed | igbio |
| Blog review | blog | review | none needed | blogreview |
| Brandable PDF | pdf | optin | none needed | pdfoptin |
| Paid search ad | gs | leash | 01 | gsleash01 |
| Native or social ad | nat | puppy | 02 | natpuppy02 |
In these examples, 2611 stands for November 2026 (year then month).
Check that a link tracks
Do this once for each new link. You don’t need to buy anything.
- Open your link. It lands on the Secrets to Dog Training sales page.
- Click an order button to go to the order page.
- Continue to the ClickBank checkout.
- Look for
[affiliate=YOUR NICKNAME]at the bottom of the ClickBank order form. If it’s there, the link is tracking.
Pixels, postbacks and UTM tags
Conversion tracking for your ads
ClickBank records the sales for this product. If you want your ad platform to see conversions as well, ClickBank’s own help pages explain the conversion tracking options it offers affiliates.
UTM tags
Use UTM tags on links to your own pages, where your own analytics reads them. On the HopLink itself, the tracking ID does that job.
When something doesn’t look right
Your nickname isn’t on the order form
Check that the nickname in your link is spelled exactly as it is in your ClickBank account, then open the link again in a private browser window. A cookie left from an earlier test can get in the way.
The link opens an error page
Look for a space, a missing letter or an extra character in the link. Building it again in the link builder is the quickest fix.
A tracking ID doesn’t appear in your reports
Make sure it uses only letters and numbers, has 24 characters or fewer, and sits in the link as &tid= (or ?tid= in the older format).
A short link doesn’t track
Test the short link with the same order-form check. If the nickname is missing, the shortener may be dropping part of the link, so shorten it again from the full link.
You see clicks but no sales yet
The link is working. Try a different angle or a different swipe for your audience, and give the free 6 Day Course time to follow up: sales within 60 days of the click still count.
A sale you expected isn’t showing
The cookie lives in the browser, so a buyer who clicked on a phone and bought on a computer, cleared their cookies or bought after 60 days won’t show as yours. If you still think a sale is missing, email marketing@
